Perspective — Energy

Value moves when markets change

Market reform rarely destroys value. It relocates it — and the businesses that map that movement early tend to own the next model.

Every significant change in energy market design moves value from one part of the chain to another. Network charging, settlement, flexibility markets and the shift toward distributed generation all redistribute margin rather than remove it.

The commercial question is not whether change is coming. It is where the money will sit afterwards, and whether your business is positioned to hold any of it.

That analysis is unglamorous and highly specific. It also tends to be the difference between a proposition that survives a business case review and one that doesn't.
